Wu Gorge

Wu Gorge, also known as Wuxia 巫峡 in Chinese, is located between Wushan County in Chongqing City and Badong County in Hubei Province. It stretches for 45 kilometers from the mouth of the Daning River in Wushan to Guandukou in the east, commonly known as Wushan Big Gorge. The gorge is long and deep, with strange peaks and abrupt peaks. The canyon is deep and beautiful, and is known for its beauty.

Wu Gorge is a relatively coherent and orderly gorge in the Three Gorges, divided into two sections: the western section consists of the Golden Helmet、Silver Armor Gorge and the Arrow Passing Gorge, while the eastern section consists of the Iron Coffin Gorge and the Gate Fan Gorge.

Wu Gorge is characterized by abrupt peaks and rugged rocks, resembling a winding gallery. The famous Wushan Twelve Peaks are located on both sides. The twelve picturesque peaks are the essence of Wu Gorge. Among the twelve peaks, the Goddess Peak (神女峰) is particularly famous, with a graceful stone pillar resembling a graceful young girl standing tall. She welcomes the morning glow every day and sees off the evening glow in the evening, hence it is also known as "Wangxia Peak". But if you take a boat tour of Wu Gorge, you can only see nine peaks of them. The three peaks in Jiangnan (Shangsheng Peak, Qiyun Peak, and Jingtan Peak) need to abandon the boat and land near Qingshi Town to be seen.

Wu Gorge is deep and narrow, with short sunshine hours. The water vapor in the canyon does not evaporate, making it easy to form clouds and mist. Clouds and mist have a myriad of forms, resembling dragons, jade belts, waterfalls, and light gauze. Under the sunshine, they are very graceful, forming the famous Buddhist light of Wu Gorge. Yuan Zhen, a poet during the Tang Dynasty(618-907), left behind the timeless masterpiece "Once the sea was difficult to turn into water, but except for Wushan, it was not clouds", which is a wonderful description of the clouds and mist in Wushan County.

There are many famous scenic spots and historical sites in Wu Gorge. In addition to the famous Twelve Peaks of Wushan, there are also Lu You Ancient Cave, Great Yu's Calligraphy Platform, the ruins of the Goddess Temple, and the Kongming Stone Tablet, all of which attract visitors from all over the country with their profound historical heritage. A suitable way to visit Wu Gorge is that you will take part in the Yangtze River Cruise to enjoy the magnificent Twelve Peaks of Wushan and the misty clouds and rain along the way.
