Overview
Located in the central part of the Guanzhong Plain in northwest China, Xian City is the capital of Shaanxi Province.
Formerly known as Chang'an or Haojing, Xi'an is one of the six ancient capitals of China. With 13 dynasties establishing its capital here in history, Xi'an is the city with the longest history of establishing a capital in ancient China. Therefore, Xi'an is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation.
Xi'an is also one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals in the world. In 1981, Xi'an was designated by UNESCO as a "World Historic & Cultural City" on par with cities such as Rome, Athens, and Cairo.
Rich history endows Xian with unique charms as a tourist city. As the home to world-famed Terracotta Warriors and Horses and as the start point of Silk Road, through which China had conducted the most important economy and culture communication with the western world, X'ian draws numerous tourists with its enormous historical sites and cultural landscapes, and gives you a chance to explore the ancient China.
Most people only spend two or three days in Xi'an dynastic enthusiasts could easily stay busy for a week. Must-sees include the Terracotta Warriors, Xi'an City Walls, Gig Wild Goose Pogoda, Drum & Bell tower, Muslim Quarter... but try to set aside time for a side trip to nearby Mountain Huashan !
