Silk is a natural protein fiber, which can be woven into textiles. The protein fiber of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and is produced by certain larvae to form cocoons.

History of Chinese Silk
Chinese legend gives the title “Goddess of Silk” to Leizu, the wife of the mythical Yellow Emperor in about 3000 BC. She is credited with the introduction of silkworm rearing and the invention of the loom. During the Western Han Dynasty, the Emperor dispatched Zhang Qian as the special envoy to the Western Regions, which facilitated the formation and development of the Silk Road.
