Jiutian Cave


Jiutian Cave, also known as Nine Heaven Cave or Nine Opening Cave, is located in Lifuta Township of Sangzhi County, 3 km away from Maoyan River Scenic Area, 17 km away from Sangzhi Railway Station, 128 km away from Zhangjiajie Airport.  Jiutian Cave and Maoyan River are gogether the major attractions in the western tourism route of Zhangjiajie.

There are 9 openings to link outside world, hence it got the name of Nine Openings Cave, known as Jiut ian dong 九天洞 in Chinese . Jiutian Cave is often dubbed Asias No.1 cave, and is said to be the largest cave of Asia, but this is not certain.  

In the Jiutian Cave, there are stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, frostwork, box work and hydromagnesite balloons. With its nine openings, it is easily accessible for bats, and thus it is an important home to several species of bats.

Opened to tourist in 1985, Jiutian Cave is a national 4A class scenic area of China.   The cave  is divided into three layers: upper, middle, and lower. There are numerous stalagmites and pillars in the cave. Entering the cave, tourists can see stone curtains and mantles everywhere. Therefore, Jiutian Cave is known as a rare flower of Chinese karst caves.
