Located in the southwest of Wulingyuan Distrcit of Zhangjiajie City, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is one of the four major parts the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Being the first national forest park in China, it was originally a state-run tree farm which was founded in 1958, and then it was officially approved to be a national-level forest park in 1982.
After foundation of Zhangjiajie City in 1988, the park became a part of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Featuring the vast forest of peculiar sandstone peaks, Wulingyuan Scenic Area ,consisting of its three major scenic spots of Zhangjiajie Natioanal Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain and Suoxiyu Natural Reserve, was added to the World Natural Heritage list in December of 1992 and became a member of the first World Geoparks promulgated by the UNESCO in 2004.
What to see in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
In Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, there are over 3000 peaks of various shapes rising straight from the ground. Being home to abundant flora and fauna, it is covered with forests around 98%, becoming a huge natural oxygen bar. With an area of 130 square kilometers, Zhangjiajie National Fourest Park can be divided into six scenic spots: Huangshi Village, Pipa Stream, Jinbian Stream, Yaozi Village, Shadao Valley, Yuanjiajie Scenic Spot, etc. Here is the map of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, please check.
Zhangjiajie Natioal Forest Park is a must-see scenic spot while tourisits travel in Zhangjiajie. Usually, it needs a full day to tour if tourist like hiking. And they will have an wonderful trip in the park. After 30 minutes driving from downtown Wulingyuan or Zhangjiajie, you'll get to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, and please follow me to visit.
Entrance Gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, located in the south of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, is also called as the South Entrance Gate of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Checked in the park, you can walk along the road built river-side of the Pipa Stream which runs from a village of Luoguta to meet the Jinbian Stream inside the park.
Great Oxygen Bar Square: After entering the park gate 300 meters, you come to a flat land surrounded by mountains, which is the Great Oxygen Bar Squar,as well as a tourist distribution center. With towering peaks, gurgling streams, shady trees and fresh air, the air here contains up to 80000 to 100000 cubic centimeters of negative oxygen ions. Close your eyes slightly and try to take a deep breath of the "purest" air, you can be feel relaxed and happy. More tourists like taking photos in front of a stone block engraved with Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Huangshi Village, also known as the Yellow Stone Village, is a plateform-like mountain with an total area of 2 square kilometers and an altitude 1206 meters. Hiking around the mountaintop , it will take about 2 hours. Standing on the Six-Wonder Pavillion, you can get a bird-view of the Yellow Stone Village. The most famous attractions in this scenic spot are getting into your eys,such as the Touching-star Plateform, the Five-fingers Peak, the Natural Bonsai Garden,the Front Garden,the Double-door Welcoming Guests... However, the Huangshi Village is the most popular destination in Zhangjaijie National Forest Park. So, there is a saying "If you don't come to Huangshi Village, you'll come to Zhangjiajie in vain！ " Visitors usually take a round-trip cableway for 3 hours touring at the Huangshi Village.
Jinbian Stream, also known as the Golden Whip Stream, is a golden tourist spot in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. With a total length of 7.5km, Jinbian Stream runs in the deep canyon from the Great Oxyen Bar Square to the scenic spot of Shuiraosimen, and it meets other 3 streams here to get a new name of Suoxi River for running. At last, it meets Lou River in Jiangya Town,and joins Lishui River in Cili County. Jinbian Strea flows between steep grotesque peaks and luxuriant trees. Here, the meandering streams, the crystal-clear waterfalls, exotic plants and rare animals co-exist and constitute the extraordinarily beautiful, tranquil and natural ecological environment. No wonder it is called "the most beautiful valley in the world" and "the most poetic stream". The major scenic spots include Rock of Welcoming Guests, Golden Whip Rock, Reunion Rock and the Purple Grass Pond.
Yaozi Village, also known as the Sparroe Hawk Village, situated in the northeast of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, and rising 1500 meters above sea level. It opposite to Huangshi Village. Yaozi Village was formerly named "Kidney Village", due to shape of it like a huge "kidney". Yaozi Village is famous for its dangerous precipices and cliffs, even the "Yaozi" cannot fly beyond it. But there are no cable cars to transport people to the top. The only way is rely on our feet. It takes more than four hours to tour the village. On the top of the village there has a broad plains, which is a wonderful natural viewing platform. Seen from the spacious flat upland, thousands of pillar-like hills, split by bottomless abysses, sprang up into the sight and soared up dramatically. What a spectacular wonderland! Every single individual can be silenced by its sheer scale. No wonder it is reputed as one of world's greatest natural wonders.
Shadaogou Stream is a huge U-shaped valley between Huangshi village and Yuanjiajie Scenic Spot in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The stream flows from the deep part of the valley to Jinbian Stream in Zicaotan Pool. On both sides of Sandaogou Stream, there are lush forests and towering peaks. Staning in the Yuan Scenic Spot, you can get a panoramic view of the quartz sandstone peak forest here.
Yuanjiajie Scenic Spot is located in the centra of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Standing on the observation platform in Yuanjiajie, you can see thousands of peaks at the same time. Peaks in various postures just look like countless brave men. Rock pillars with green trees just look like handsome generals. They describe a scene of army. Although these peaks are solid, they let people enter into a imaginary world and present a lively picture in the front of our eyes.
