The large-scale landscape performance of "Impression Liu Sanjie" is directed by famous directors Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge, and Fan Yue, and planned by national screenwriter Mei Shuaiyuan. It combines the scenery of the Li River, the culture of ethnic minorities in Guangxi, and the creations of Chinese elite artists. It is the first "landscape performance" with a new concept in China, pioneering the large-scale landscape performance in China and becoming a model for the successful operation of the domestic cultural industry.
Impression: Liu Sanjie "was directed by Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge, and Fan Yue, planned by Mei Shuaiyuan, and co created by four main creators. It inherits the legend of Guangxi singer Liu Sanjie, but is not limited to her own story. Instead, it uses the composition and techniques of Chinese traditional painting to blend with the real mountains and waters, combined with the unique rhythm and rhyme of ethnic minority songs, and integrates and presents the natural scenery along the Li River, the lives and labor of fishermen and villagers, and the folk customs of ethnic minorities through visual effects and artistic arrangement.
The performance as a whole lacks a continuous storyline and accurate lyrics translation. Instead, it uses Liu Sanjie as a guide to showcase the customs and traditions of ethnic minorities such as Zhuang, Yao, Miao, and Dong in Guangxi, as well as the hundred households and ten thousand elephants around the Li River, through freehand imagery and familiar mountain songs.
Since its performance in March 2004, "Impression Liu Sanjie" has accumulated over 8000 shows and is a benchmark for live performances in China.
