Guilin Transportation


Guilin City is located at the junction of the three major economic circles of the Pan Pearl River Delta, Southwest China, and ASEAN. It is not only a bridge connecting the coastal economies of Southwest China and South China, but also a hub connecting China and ASEAN. Since the opening of the Lingqu Canal in the Qin Dynasty (221BC-208BC), Guilin has been a vital hub connecting Lingnan and the Yangtze River Basin. As one of the famous tourist cities in China, Guilin has built a three-dimensional and convenient transportation network with air, railway, road, and water transportation in all directions.


By Air

Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is located in Liangjiang Town, Lingui District, southwest of Guilin City. It covers an area of 4.06 square kilometers, has a flight zone level of 4F, a runway length of 3200 meters, and an existing terminal area of 50305 square meters. The T2 terminal and apron supporting facilities of Guilin Airport were completed in September 2018. The T2 terminal has a construction area of 100000 square meters and a apron area of 400000 square meters, with a total of 48 supporting aircraft slots. The annual passenger throughput can reach 12 million, the cargo and mail throughput is 95000 tons, and the aircraft takeoff and landing volume is 100000.

Guilin Airport is an important tourist airport in China, with 100 flight routes. It not only connects to more than 100 domestic cities such as Hong Kong and Taipei, but also has round-trip flights to foreign cities such as Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Incheon, and Bangkok.

By Train

Since 2013, China's high-speed railway construction has rapidly accelerated, and Guilin, like Nanning and Liuzhou, has become one of the three major hub cities for railway transportation in Guangxi. Nowadays, Guilin has become a railway transportation hub connecting the four provinces and regions of Hunan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Guangdong, and even the southwestern, central and southern regions of China. It has opened direct high-speed trains to provincial capitals such as Nanning, Changsha, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Shijiazhuang, Shanghai, Guiyang, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, and the capital city of Beijing.

Guilin Railway Station

Guilin Railway Station, also known as South Railway Station, is the main passenger railway station in Guilin. Generally, trains depart from Guilin Station, and some high-speed trains also depart from here, with directions including Nanning, Beijing, Beihai, Changsha, and Wuhan.

Guilin North Railway Station

It is mainly a high-speed railway departure station, and currently the trains departing from Guilin North Station are mainly from Nanning, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Guizhou directions.

Yangshuo Railway Station

The operating hours of passenger trains are flexible from 7:30am (departing from Yangshuo Xingping High speed Railway Station) to 21:30 (departing from Xingping High speed Railway Station to Yangshuo), and they usually leave when fully booked.

Guilin West Railway Station

Guilin West Station Common Speed Yard is located in Dingjiang Town, Lingchuan County, Guilin City. There are a total of 2 main lines, 6 arrival and departure lines, 2 lead lines, and 5 freight lines, responsible for the dismantling, grouping, reorganization, transfer, arrival and departure, and passing operations of freight trains in the Liuzhou and Yongzhou directions.

By Long-distance Bus

Guilin has a wide range of highways that directly connect various parts of Guangxi and neighboring provinces. The city has 1126 kilometers of national highways, of which the section from Guilin to Yangshuo has been transformed into a high-grade highway.

Guilin-Liuzhou Expressway connects Liuzhou, Nanning, and Beihai to the south and reaches Hunan to the north; Guilin-Wuzhou Expressway is the most convenient highway passage for entering Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in the northern Guangxi region and other provinces such as Hunan, Guizhou, and Sichuan; Xing'an-Guilin Expressway, Guanyang-Fenghuang Expressway, Ziyuan-Xing'an Expressway, Guilin-Sanjiang Expressway, Luzhai-Yangshuo Expressway and Lipu-Yulin Expressway have all been completed and opened to traffic.

Guilin Terminal Bus Station

All non city buses and the vast majority of suburban buses depart from the bus terminal. Yangshuo, Pingle, Lipu, and Gongcheng depart from the main station, while provincial and long-distance buses depart from Guilin Bus Terminal. Bus services (including direct and regular buses) for the four counties of Xing'an, Quanzhou, Guanyang, and Ziyuan in the north are available from 7:30am to 6:30pm every day. Traveling north from the South Railway Station (turning left after leaving the station) takes about 10 minutes to reach each station.

Towards Lingchuan and Xing'an, it departures heading towards the northern part of the city or in the northern direction outside the city will be arranged to enter and depart from Guilin Bus North Station.

By Water

Guilin City has seven main shipping rivers, including the Li River, Gui River, Xiang River, Luoqing River, Zi River, Xun River, and Baishou River. The total length of the waterway is 541 kilometers, of which 175 kilometers are navigable. The Li River and the Gui River are important navigable rivers in Guilin, with a navigable area of 175 kilometers. They flow into the the Pearl River through Wuzhou and open to the sea.

If you want to visit the Li River in Guilin, it's best to take a boat. Guilin has two main docks, Mopanshan Dock and Zhujiang Dock. The Li River cruise ticket needs to be purchased one day in advance, which can be purchased at the dock or registered for a group cruise.
