Rongshan Lake, 榕杉湖 (rong shan hu) in Chinese, formerly known as Jian Lake (鉴湖), is located in the middle section of Zhongshan Middle Road in the center of Guilin, on both sides of Yangqiao Bridge. Rongshan Lake Scenic Area is a connected heart lake with water bodies. With Yangqiao as the boundary, the east is Shan Lake and the west is named Rong Lake. It is named after the banyan and fir trees growing on the shore of the lake. Rong Lake is often referred to as Rongshan Lake together with Shan Lake.
Since the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911), wealthy gentry and famous scholars have built houses by the lake shore. Nowadays, most of the former residences have disappeared without a trace, leaving only the official residence of Li Zongren, former vice prisedent of the Repubilc of China(1912-1949).
Beidou Bridge is located in Rong Lake, connected to the central island of the lake to the east and the ancient south gate to the west. The layout of the bridge follows the distribution of the Beidou Star, hence the name Beidou Bridge. The deck railings are all made of Fangshan high-grade White Marble, which is the White Marble bridge in Guangxi at present.
The Sun and Moon Twin Towers are located in the middle of Shan Lake. The Sun Tower is a copper tower located in the center of the lake. The two towers are connected by an 18 meter long underwater aquarium. All components of the copper tower, such as Tash, tile surface, upturned corner, door arch, sparrow, doors and windows, columns and beams, ceiling, ground, etc., are cast and forged from steel, and decorated with exquisite copper murals. The entire copper tower is one of the world's tallest - the world's tallest copper tower, the world's tallest copper building, and the world's tallest water tower. The Sun and Moon Twin Towers are one of the important night views of the two rivers and four lakes in Guilin.
