Banpo Museum

Banpo Museum in Xi'an was built in 1957 on the Banpo Site (a site of the Yangshao culture matrilineal tribes dating back approximately 6000 years). It reproduces the living scenes of Chinese ancestors, and also provides insights into the unique tomb system and ancient pottery and painting art of that time.

The ruins hall is the focus of the museum. Museums are divided into residential areas, pottery making areas, and burial areas. Compared to the value of regular tourism, the archaeological prices here are higher. The hall displays some residential areas of the site and a pottery kiln. You can learn about stories that happened thousands of years ago through the touch screen, and the exhibition hall also uses electronic virtual and phantom imaging methods to reproduce the scene of the ancient ancestors creating brilliant culture in Banpo.

There are themed small exhibitions around the tourist site hall, where you can see extremely rare tomb systems. During the Banpo period, different burial methods were used for adults and children. Adults were buried in a common cemetery in the village after death, while children were generally buried in urns and coffins next to houses.

There is also an exhibition room on the side of the hall, where there is a concentrated display of Banpo cultural relics. You will be pleasantly surprised to see the "human face fish pattern basin" (replica, original in the National Museum of China) displayed here.

The initial design of the Fuwa in the 2008 Olympics was also influenced by it. The pottery and painting art of the Banpo people is ancient and geometric.
