The Song of Everlasting Sorrow


The Song of Everlasting Sorrow is a large-scale historical dance drama put on in Huaqingchi Scenic Area, Lintong District of Xian City.

The "Song of Everlasting Sorrow" is adapted from the narrative poem of the same name by Bai Juyi. It is performed by more than 300 professional actors dressed in gorgeous Tang costumes, using dance to showcase the classic scenes narrated in the poem.

During the prosperous Tang Dynasty, Emperor Ming of Tang summoned Yang Yuhuan into the palace, beloved and favored. After the An Lushan Rebellion, Yang Yuhuan was forced to die on Maweipo. Emperor Ming was heartbroken, and his soul eventually ascended to heaven. He met his beloved consort in the Moon Palace.

The show, resolving around the tragic love between Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty Li Longji and his concubine Yang Yuhuan, was produced in 2006 by Shaanxi Tourism Group, inspired by the epic poem The Song of Everlasting Sorrow by Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty and the rich history and culture of Huaqing Palace.

The show not only features the music and dance of the Tang Dynasty, but also includes folk art elements in Shaanxi, making it unique and unduplicated.

The Song of Everlasting Sorrow is undoubtedly a representative of China’s real-scene performance, and most tourists was deeply moved by the show while enjoying it.
