Qingyang Temple, located in the southwest of Chengdu, is a relatively old and large-scale Taoist temple in Chengdu. The current Qingyang Temple was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1645-1911). This temple is bustling with incense and has a strong Taoist atmosphere. As it is not a regular route for tourist groups, it appears relatively peaceful and is a place for local elderly people to relax.
According to legend, Qingyang Temple was first built in the Zhou Dynasty( 1046 BC-256 BC ) . It is said that it is directly connected to the founder of Taoism, Laozi. When Laozi rode a green ox out of Hangu Pass, he once said: "A thousand days later, he searched for me at Qingyang Temple in Chengdu."
According to research, it was already named "Qingyang Temple" during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280). In the Tang Dynasty (618-907), it was renamed "Xuanzhong Temple". In the Song Dynasty( 907-1127), it was renamed "Qingyang Temple".
The important buildings of Qingyang Temple include Lingzu Hall, Qiankun Hall, Bagua Pavilion, Sanqing Hall, Doulao Hall, and Tangwang Hall, with Laozi Birth Platform and Discourse Platform on both sides. Not far west of Qingyang Temple, there are attractions such as Sichuan Museum and Du Fu Thatched Cottage, which can be visited together.
