Furong Ancient Town, formerly known as "Wang Village", is about 50 kilometers away from Yongshun County. The ancient town has a history of over 2000 years and became famous for its filming in the film "Furong Town" directed by Xie Jin and starring Liu Xiaoqing and Jiang Wen. It was later renamed "Furong Town".
The ticket office, entrance, exit, and tourist service center of Furong Town are all located at one end of the town. After entering the ancient town from the entrance, walk along the old street covered with bluestone slabs inside the town for sightseeing. On both sides of the old street, many local residences have been preserved, and the walls of many residences are made of wooden boards. Many wooden boards have become discolored and blackened, unknowingly imprinted with the imprint of time.
The central area of the ancient town is built on a tall mountain stone, and a waterfall with a drop of several tens of meters hangs at the foot of the town. The Tujia stilted building in the town is built next to the waterfall, so it is also known as the "millennium old town hanging on the waterfall". If you have plenty of time, you can choose to stay overnight at a hotel in a stilted building and fall asleep with the sound of the waterfall and flowing water.
Every family here has pumpkin lanterns, and as night falls, the lanterns come on. Coupled with the colorful waterfalls, the night view is very dazzling and beautiful, like a palace in the sky, which is intoxicating.
Furong Ancient Tonw is famous for its movies, and the rice tofu sold by Liu Xiaoqing, known as "Tofu Xishi" in the movie, has now taken root in the town. There are shops with signs of "Rice Tofu" everywhere in the town, but the authentic one is also one of the ones in the film. It is located at the "memorial archway" after entering the town, where you can find and taste it.
In the ancient town, you can go to the "Xizhou Copper Pillar Museum" to see the "Xizhou Copper Pillar" engraved with the peace agreement signed between the King of Chu and the local "King of Earth". The copper pillar records the history of the Tujia people nationality. You can also go to the "Tuwang Palace" next to the waterfall to see the former residence of the border chieftain. The vicinity of the "Palace" is also a good place to watch the whole town, with a view of the Diaojiao Tower, the waterfall, and the Youshui River under the waterfall.
There are many shops in the town, and the Tujia brocade, bamboo wine, and Uncle Maojian here are all good travel souvenirs.
