Xiangxi Transportation


Since ancient times, the area of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture has been closed to traffic because of its remote location, complex terrain and backward economy. The You River, a tributary of the Yuan River, flows through a vast area of the Xiangxi region. In old days, people entering and exiting Xiangxi were not only transported by foot, but also by boat on the Youshui River.

After the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, transportation here was greatly improved,  roads and railways were built in 1970's. In recent years, the transportation industry here has made rapid progress, and now a three-dimensional transportation network of highways, high-speed railways, and air transportation has been formed to provide convenience for domestic and foreign tourists to visit Xiangxi.


By Air

Xiangxi Biancheng Airport (IATA: DXJ, ICAO: ZGXX) is located in Huayuan Town, Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. It is 17 kilometers away from Huayuan County and 35 kilometers away from Jishou. It is a 4C level domestic tourism feeder airport. This airport operates flights between Xiangxi and Beijing,Guangzhou,Shanghai,Shenzhen,Chengdu,Chongqing,etc. Visitors can take direct flight via the major big cities to Xiangxi.

Inadition, if you want to visit Xiangxi , you can also take flights from some cities of China to Tongren,Huaihua or Zhangjiajie at first, and then take bus or train to Jishou or Fenghuang Ancient Town for your Xiangxi trip.


By Train

In 1978, Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Railway operated to pass through Guzhou,Yongshun and Jishou in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. In recent years, Qianjiang-Zhangjiajie-Changde Railway operated run through Lonshan, and Zhangjiajie-Jishou-Huaihua Railway operated to go through Yongshun,Jishou and Fenghuang in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Hence, it is very easily for visitors to take regular train or high-speed train from any other cities to Xiangxi. In this area, the major train stations are list as below:

Jishou East Railway Station

Located in Shuangtang Village of Jishou City, Jishou East Railway Station is a new high-speed railway station and a landmark of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture. On December 26, 2021, with the opening and operation of the Zhang-Ji-Huai high-speed railway, Jishou East Station was put into use.

Jishou Railway Station

Jishou Railway Station is located at the junction of North 1st Ring Road and Renmin North Road in Jishou City, Hunan Province, and its main destinations are Beijing, Guangzhou, Changsha, Kunming, Nanning, Zhangjiajie, Luoyang, etc.

Fenghuang Railway Station

Fenghuang Ancient City Railway Station is located in the south of the ancient city of Fenghuang County, about 1.5 kilometers away from the ancient city scenic spot. There are multiple bus stops around the train station, making it convenient for tourists to reach Fenghuang Ancient City.

Longshan North Railway Station

Longshan North Station is located in Baiping Village, Longshan County, Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture. It is 69 km away from Sangzhi Railway Station, 12 km away from Laifeng Railway Station, and 3 km away from the county seat of Longshan.


By Long-Distance Bus

In 1940s, during the late World War II, the "Xiang Chuan Highway" was completed, which ran through western Hunan. This is the first road in the history of Xiangxi. When passing through the Aizhai Grand Canyon, it spirals up the steep slope and turns around over ten windings. which is a highway wonder.

By the end of 2020, 13134 kilometers  roads including 482 kilometers of highways have opened to traffic in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Visitors can take long-distance bus from any city of Hunan or other major cities of China to Xiangxi. Here lists major bus station in Xiangxi:

Jishou North Bus Station

Next to Jishou Railway Station, turn left when you go out, and the most convenient bus station to Phoenix is Jishou North Bus Station.

City Traffic 

City Bus:  There are 1 bus, 1 branch bus, 2 bus, 3 right ring bus, 3 left ring bus, 6 bus, 5 bus, 3 bus, 101 bus in Jishou City, and the fare is 2 yuan/person time; There is also a shuttle bus from Jishou Railway Station to Dezhan Miao Village, with a fare of 10 yuan per person. The morning departure time is 6:00, and the last departure time of the last train is 19:30, 20:30, and 21:30.

Taxi: There are nearly 700 taxis in the urban area of Jishou. The starting price is 5 yuan per vehicle, and the Bunker adjustment factor is 1 yuan. The price increase at night is from 22:00 of the day to 6:00 of the next day. The price increase standard is 30% higher than the daytime standard; The one-way passenger air travel fee is 6 kilometers, and for those exceeding 6 kilometers, an additional 40% return air travel fee will be charged; The remaining fare will be charged based on actual change; Passengers shall pay separately for the fees incurred during the taxi passenger transportation process, such as crossing roads, bridges, and transitions.
