Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is located in a low latitude zone, with a subtropical monsoon humid climate. Its characteristics are affected by the topography of the Wuling Mountains: the winter is cold, the summer is warm and humid, the turn of spring and summer is wet and rainy, the weather is changeable, the weather turns cool in autumn, the temperature drops, the monsoon is obvious, and the four seasons are distinct.

Rainfall is concentrated from April to September each year, accounting for 70.8-77.3% of the annual precipitation.

Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is located in Wuling Mountain area on the east side of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Its terrain inclines from northwest to southeast. The Wuling Mountains run through the whole territory from northeast to southwest. There are many mountains in the north, with more than 130 peaks, big and small. Daling Mountain is located at the northern border. The famous peaks include Bamian Mountain, Daqing Mountain, Baiyun Mountain, Naphegy, Lianhua Mountain, Laer Mountain, Gaowangjie, Motianling, etc. Daling Mountain, located in Longshan County, is 1736 meters high. It is the highest peak in Xiangxi, and the outlet of Dalong River in Shangbao Township, Luxi County has an altitude of only 97.1 meters, It is the lowest point in Xiangxi.
