The scenic area has two entrances: the South Gate and the East Gate (also known as the North Gate). Most of the cultural attractions are close to the south gate, including the Yuelu Academy at the foot of the mountain, the Autumn-Admiring Pavilion in the Qingfeng Gorge, the ancient Lushan Temple with a history of more than 1700 years, and the Yunlu Taoist Temple on the top of the mountain.

In addition, there are graves of revolutionary martyrs such as Huang Xing, Chen Tianhua, Cai E, etc. The east gate of the scenic area is close to the next station of the cableway, and the last station of the cableway is the Nanniwan Villa in the scenic area. There are scenic spots such as the Yuwang Stele and the Manghe Cave nearby.

Yuelu Mountain is also a huge "museum of plants". There are ancient and famous trees such as Podocarpus macrophyllus in the Jin Dynasty, ginkgo in the Tang Dynasty, cinnamomum camphora in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and maple chestnut in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Autumn (September to November) is the best season for sightseeing, with abundant red leaves covering the Yuelu Mountain.
