Overview
Tongren, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Guizhou Province, is located in the northeast of Guizhou Province, in the hinterland of the Wuling Mountains. It is adjacent to Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County in Huaihua City, Hunan Province to the east and Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County in Chongqing City to the north.
It is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and the entire area of Tongren City is mainly mountainous. Fanjing Mountain is the main peak of the Wuling Mountains and was listed as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage in 2018. There are 42 ethnic minorities living in Tongren City, including the Tujia, Miao, Dong, Gelao, Buyi, and Yi ethnic groups.
