Balagezong Scenic Area


Balagezong Scenic Area is located on the northwest side of Shangri La city and boasts magnificent natural scenery, The scenic area is mainly divided into two parts: the canyon area and Balagu Village, both of which are connected by sightseeing buses.

What to  see

After arriving at the scenic area, tourists first take a sightseeing bus (about 40 minutes) to Bala Village, travel for about 1 hour, then take a bus to the entrance of the canyon area (about 20 minutes), travel for about 2-3 hours, and then return to the gate. The whole journey takes about 4-6 hours.

Bala Tibetan Village 

The village, located on the west side of the scenic area, is an ancient Tibetan village with Tibetan style dwellings dating back over a hundred years. Surrounding the village, there are dense vegetation and steep rock walls. In the distance, there are majestic snow capped mountains, and the scenery is peaceful and beautiful, making it a great place to explore large areas.

Shangri La Grand Canyon

The canyon is very deep, with green and turbulent rivers, dense trees around, and magnificent scenery. There is a 5-kilometer boardwalk in the valley, and tourists can walk along the boardwalk to visit (about 1 hour). After reaching the end of the boardwalk, they can take a car out of the valley to go to Tongtian Gorge, or choose to drift all the way down in the deep and beautiful canyon, and then take a car to Tongtian Gorge after arriving at Pier 2.

Tongtian Grand Canyon

What's interesting about the Tongtian Grand Canyon is the 700 meter suspended boardwalk. Walking on it, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and experience the thrilling feeling.

In addition to canyons and ancient villages, there are also two other must see attractions in the scenic area. One is the millennium Bodhi tree near the entrance, whose trunk has the shape of a human palm, which is very vivid and has amazed many tourists.

Another wonder is located deep in the pasture of Galacun, where there is a Qudeng Divine Mountain. The circular peak at the top of this mountain is covered with white snow, and below it is a black circular rock wall, resembling the shape of Buddhist pagodas that can be seen everywhere in Tibet. It is called a natural pagoda. Visiting the natural pagoda requires a one hour hike from the end of the road in Galacun. Interested tourists can go there.
