Jing'an Temple

Jing'an Temple, also known as Jing'an Ancient Temple, is located in Jing'an District, Shanghai.

With a history of over 1000 years, Jing'an Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. It was originally built in the tenth year of the Chiwu reign of the Sun Kingdom of the Three Kingdoms period (247 AD) ,and it was originally named Hudu Chongxuan Temple. In the first year of the Xiangfu reign of Emperor Taizong of the Northern Song Dynasty (1008 AD), it was renamed Jing'an Temple. In the ninth year of the Jiading reign of the Southern Song Dynasty (1216), the temple was moved from the bank of the Wusong River to the edge of the Lupufeijing (now Nanjing West Road). So it can be seen that Jing'an Temple was established even earlier than the city of Shanghai.

Covering a total construction area is 22000 square meters, Jinan Temple has its architecture  that it is temple in the front and it is tower on the back, which is mainly composed of three buildings such as the the Shakya ManiHall, the Heavenly King Hall and the Three Holy Halls. However,The architectural style of Jing'an Temple is similar to that before the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and the typical representative is the shape of arch of wooden architecture.
