Shuangta Temple, also known as Twin Pagoda Temple, olcated in the southern suburbs of Taiyuan, is a landmark building of Taiyuan city and the theme pattern on the city emblem. Shuangta Temple, formerly known as Yongzuo Temple, was built around the middle of the Ming Dynasty's Wanli period (1597-1602). Due to the presence of two high towers inside the temple, it is commonly referred to as Shuangta Temple.
The the Shakya ManiHall of the Shuangta Temple is a brick imitation wood building. The entire building has no beams or a single piece of wood, and is entirely made of bricks with intricate and elegant carvings. When you enter the the Shakya ManiHall, you can see the three Buddha statues enshrined in the hall: Amitabha Buddha, Sakyamuni and Herbalist Buddha.
The the Shakya ManiHall of the Shuangta Temple is a two-story structure. On the second floor, there is the "Three Sages Pavilion", where three great masters are enshrined: Guanyin, Manjusri and Samantabhadra. If you come to the the Shakya ManiHall in May, you can also enjoy the hundred year old peony planted in the Ming Dynasty, named "Zixia Immortal", which is rooted in the square flower bed in front of the Mahavira Hall and has been blooming here for more than 300 years.
