Bailongdong Temple, also known as the White Dragon Cave Temple, was first built by a legendary Zen master during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The temple was rebuilt in the early Qing Dynasty, and Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty once bestowed scriptures and couplets upon the temple.
This temple currently has two halls in front and back. In front of it are the Three Holy Temples, where Amitabha Buddha, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, and Guanyin Bodhisattva are worshipped as the Western Three Saints. At the back is the the Shakya ManiHall, where Sakyamuni, Manjusri and Samantabhadra are enshrined.
The legendary Zen master of Mount Emei once led his disciples to plant Zhen Nan beside the temple. He recited the Lotus Sutra orally, one word per plant, and planted a total of 69777 plants in Zhouguang, two miles away. The lush forest, with green clouds covering the sky, was formerly known as the "Gongde Forest". There are still more than 10 ancient nans, reaching a height of 20-30 meters and over 400 years old, leaving a cool world for future generations.
On the hillside of Gongde Forest, there was originally a very deep hole. Legend has it that it was the place where Bai Niangzi (White Snake) practiced Taoism back then. Later, due to a landslide, the cave was sealed off, leaving only some imagination for people.
