Jinjiang Theater, also known as Chengdu Sichuan Opera Art Center, was built on the former site of Yuelai Tea Garden, the birthplace of Sichuan Opera. It was founded in 1908 (the 34th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty) and has a history of nearly 100 years. Today, it is still the "opera house" of Sichuan Opera in the hearts of Chengdu citizens. Here, in addition to the regular performances of Sichuan Opera excerpts at the Tea Garden Wannian Terrace by Chengdu Sichuan Opera House every Saturday, there are also occasional performances of Sichuan Opera plays at Jinjiang Theater
Sichuan Opera Show - Legendary Face Changing "is a large-scale stage play that is the first of its kind in China to showcase the local customs and traditions of Chengdu by incorporating elements of Sichuan opera, acrobatics, dance, magic, and utilizing modern sound, light, and electricity technology and fashionable artistic means.
The performance takes Sichuan opera as the core element, while maintaining the artistic characteristics of singing, recitation, sitting, fighting, and special skills in Sichuan opera, innovatively integrating other art forms such as acrobatics, dance, magic, and hand shadow, strengthening the artistic tension of Sichuan opera. It enhances the impact of Sichuan opera performance from multiple perspectives and angles, especially making bold explorations in the audio-visual and appreciation aspects of Sichuan opera, making it suitable for all ages.
Sichuan Opera Show - Legendary Face Changing "conveys the development process of Sichuan Opera's unique skill of face changing through the main characters in the story.
The story takes place at the site of "Sanqinghui" in Chengdu, one of the birthplaces of Sichuan Opera (now the location of "Jinjiang Theater"). Xiao Sanqing, who loves Sichuan opera, practices diligently and his master decides to take Sanqing as his disciple. The beautiful 'Little Washing Flower' is in its first love for 'Little Three Celebrations', and the two are enjoying each other. The bullying 'Ma Dashao' used a horizontal knife to snatch 'Xiao Huanhua' and ordered someone to spit fire and burn 'Xiao Sanqing''s face. Xiao Sanqing had to wear a mask and wander on the streets, secretly practicing face changing skills. In the end, he became a face changing king with eight heads in one go. After enduring hardships, "Xiaohuanhua" finally found "Xiaosanqing". The two of them worked together to make the Sichuan Opera stage shine, and a story condensed the century long journey of Sichuan Opera people.
This play has won the "Five One Project" Drama Award for the 8th Chengdu Municipal Spiritual Civilization Construction; In the 2013 "First Sichuan Province Excellent Tourism Performance" and "Sichuan Tourism Drama Series" popular among the masses organized by the Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department, Provincial Department of Culture, and Provincial Tourism Bureau, it was awarded the first place in the "Sichuan Province Excellent Tourism Performance" and the title of "Sichuan Tourism Drama Series" popular among tourists.
