Chinese Hybrid Rice
Hybrid rice refers to the selection of two rice varieties with certain genetic differences and complementary good characters to produce the first generation hybrid with heterosis . China is the first country in the world to successfully develop and promote hybrid rice. In October 2019, the first public test of the third generation hybrid rice was conducted in Hunan Province, with a yield of 1046kg per mu. In November 2020, the double cropping yield measurement of hybrid rice in Hengyang City, Hunan Province reached 1530kg per mu.
The Father of Hybrid Rice
Yuan Longping, the pioneer and leader of China's hybrid rice industry, is a famous Chinese agricultural scientist and academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering. He is known as the "father of hybrid rice". In recent decades, Yuan Longping, a self-described "intellectual peasant", is regarded as a "national hero". On September 17, 2019, Yuan Longping was awarded the "Medal of the Republic".
