蜡染 là rǎn,also known as Batik or Wax Dyeing.  Miao Batik  has a long history which can be dated back 2000 years. Its artistic products are renowned throughout the dyeing and weaving industry.

In ancient times, Miao people referred to wax dyeing as waxwork. It is to say that wax is used to dot patterns on the fabric, and then place in a dye vat for immersion dyeing. The areas with wax cannot be dyed, and the beautiful patterns can be seen by removing the wax. This is wax dyeing.

In the area of Xiangxi, most of the wax dyed products of the Miao ethnic group are dark blue with white flowers on the background, with smooth and clear patterns, simple and elegant. Showcasing the rich and colorful ethnic culture and folk arts and crafts skills of the Miao people themselves.
