One kilometer away from Shengshui Zen Temple, there is a temple hidden in the lush forest, called Zhongfeng Temple. Taoism was prevalent in Mount Emei during the Jin Dynasty, where the Qianming Temple was located and Taoist priests gathered from all over the world.
At the end of the Jin Dynasty, Taoism declined and Buddhism flourished. Taoist priests in Guanzhong invited Master Mingguo of Buddhism to reside in the temple, which was transformed into Zhongfeng Temple. During the Northern Song Dynasty, the governor of Xuzhou, Huang Tingjian, came to this place to "study tranquility".
Zhongfeng Temple was destroyed by fire in the 43rd year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1704 AD), and although it was rebuilt later, it was still not as large as its original scale. The existing buildings include the mountain gate, the the Shakya ManiHall, the Hall of Samantabhadra, etc. The Buddha statue is solemn and a piece of quiet land. The Bhikkhus Class of Mount Emei Buddhist Academy is located here, and visitors often hear the sound of chanting sutras echoing through the courtyard.
