Tianmen Mountain is the extension of Wuling Mountains eastward into Dongting Lake Plain. Within the Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area, there are over 30 peaks with an altitude of over 1000 meters, among which Yuhu Peak is the highest, with an altitude of 1518.6 meters.
Chisong Peak & Heshangnao Peak
Located in the west scenic spot, Chisong Peak is named after Chisongzi , the rain master who worked for Emperor Shennong in ancient time. Crossed the West Line Glass Skywalk, you'll get to Yihong Pass(倚虹关). Standing at Yihong Pass, you can find far away that there are three undulating peaks distributed in the west. Ok, it is Chisong Peak on the far left. As a legend saying, Chisongzi once lived in seclusion and practiced here.
Nearby the Chisong Peak, it is Heshangnao Peak, which means the "monk's brain" because it resembles the monk's hat worn by a monk. In the middle of the Chisong Peak and Heshangnao Peak, it is a huge stone cliff which opens up a deep and bottomless canyon. Above the canyon, there is a natural stone strip that connects the two sides like a rainbow, hence the name "Broken Mountain Rainbow Bridge". And Here you are standing is named "Yihongguan", means the pass is near the rainbow.
Yuhu Peak
Located on the top of Tianmen Cave in the east scenic spot, Yuhu Peak is one of the most famous peaks in Tianmen Mountain. Yuhu Peak is named after its resemblance to a jade pot used for holding liquor. According to legend, long long ago,this jade pot was left here accidentally after the fairy Magu gave a toast to the Queen Mother of the West Heaven. Another name for Tianmen Mountain is "Fanghu Mountain", which is named after "Yuhu Peak". Yuhu Peak has an altitude of over 1400 meters and it is surrounded by no obstacles. Clouds and mist are steaming all year round.
Looking out from afar, you can see some mountains entering your eyes. It is Chaotian Mountain to the north, it is the towering cliffs of Tianmen Mountain to the west, and it is Matou Mountain with 48 peaks to the southeast. Matou Mountain, means the mountain looks like the horse head. So it is said that this mounatin was formed by the incarnation of forty-eight horses under its seat during the Emperor Qin Shihuang, who was the founder of the Qin Dynasty( 221 BC-208 BC) , rush to fill the sea.
Cloud Dream Summit
Tianmen Mountain Peak is former named "Cloud Dream Summit", (Yun Meng Xian Ding 云梦仙顶 in Chiense) . With its height of 1518.6 meters above sea level, the Cloud Dream Summit is the commanding height of Tianmen Mountain. Nowadasy, Lingxiao Pavillion was built on the summit, visitors can walk up to the pavillion after taking the cableway from Tianmen temple to the Cloud Dream Summit. Standing on the pavillion and facing downwards with a wide view for looking around, you can observe the sunrise of the red mountains in the morning and the sunset of the melting gold in the evening. it is really a panoramic view of various scenic spots.
