Maling River is located in Xingyi City, at the junction of Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guizhou provinces (regions). It is 334 kilometers northeast of Guiyang and 321 kilometers west of Kunming. It originates from Baiyingling in the Wumeng Mountains and is called Qingshui River in the upper reaches. The middle reaches are called Maling River due to the presence of Mabie Dazhai and Maling Zhai on both sides.
Maling River has a slightly melancholic title - 'Beautiful Scar on Earth', which vividly describes the magnificence and steepness of the Maling River. The Maling River has a total length of over 70 kilometers and cuts a narrow and deep crevice canyon on the Pingchuan River. This structure is extremely rare in the world and is known as the "number one crevice in the world".
The magnificent and beautiful Maling River Canyon National Scenic Area is known as the "River of Thousand Waterfalls" and the "Sky Gully and Earth Rift". In 1993, the Maling River "Five Ring Drifting Company" was established, which pioneered the Southwest Drifting. In April 1998, the International Canoe Drifting Competition was successfully held and became a kayak training base in Guizhou Province and a national Olympic whitewater sports base.
