Yan'an is located in the north of Shaanxi Province, in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, in the south-central region of the Loess Plateau, 371 kilometersnorth of Xi'an. The city is connected to Yulin in the north, and Xianyang, Tongchuan and Weinan in the south, faces Linfen and Lvliang in Shanxi across the Yellow River in the east, and is next to Qingyang in Gansu in the west.
Yan'an is one of the birthplaces of the 5000 year civilization of the Chinese nation. The tomb of Emperor Xuanyuan of the Yellow Emperor lies on the top of Qiaoshan in Yan'an, and is revered by the descendants of the Yellow Emperor as the "ancestor of humanity". In the long river of history, Yan'an, with its special strategic position as a "frontier county" and a "five pronged gateway", has attracted many ancient Chinese famous generals such as Wu Qi, Meng Tian, Fan Zhongyan, and Shen Kuo to showcase their literary and military strategies, and staged tragic historical dramas with golden spears and iron horses.
From 1935 to 1948, the Party Central Committee, Chairman Mao and other older revolutionaries lived and fought here for 13 years, led the people of the whole country to win the great victory of the War of Resistance against Japan and the War of Liberation, and cultivated the Yan'an spirit that shines for thousands of years. It is a world-famous revolutionary shrine in China!
