Wanfenglin Scenic Area


Wanfeng Forest Scenic Area is located in the southwest of Xingyi City, Guizhou Province, in the hinterland of southwest Guizhou at the southeast edge of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, between 104 ° 51 'to 104 ° 58' east longitude and 24 ° 58 'to 25 ° 42' north latitude. 

It borders Guangxi at the southern end, Sanjiangkou at the junction of Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guizhou provinces (regions) to the west, and the main peak of Wumeng Mountain to the north. The peak has an elevation of 1600 meters and an average elevation of 1200 meters, with a forest coverage rate of 68.5% and a total area of over 2000 square kilometers. It is a typical area of cone-shaped karst peak forest landform development in the world. Wanfenglin has a pleasant climate with an average temperature of 16-18 ℃ throughout the year. There is no severe cold in winter and no extreme heat in summer. The average temperature in July is 21-26 ℃. It has been listed in the national summer resort city ranking and is an excellent leisure tourism destination in China.

The Wanfenglin Scenic Area is mainly characterized by cone-shaped peak forests and peak clusters developed from Triassic rock formations, with various geological relics such as karst caves, funnels, underground rivers, sinkholes, and sedimentary strata distributed among them. The peak cluster and peak forest landform landscapes are widely distributed, diverse in types, rich in forms, and well developed, which are extremely rare in China and even in the world. They are typical representatives of the conical karst landform landscapes formed in the transitional slope zone from the western the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to the hills of Guangxi, and are "the large museum of conical karst in China".

The types of landscape resources in the scenic area are mainly natural landscapes such as pastoral scenery and mountain scenery, supplemented by cultural landscapes such as ethnic minority villages. In terms of natural resources, according to the form of peak forests, Wanfeng forest stands are classified into karst solitary peaks, valley peak forests, karst cone peaks, blade shaped stone peaks, and other types, forming a magnificent and vast karst landscape. They are a typical representative of cone-shaped karst landforms and have significant geological research value; In terms of cultural resources, the long history of the Buyi ethnic group has accumulated rich ethnic culture. Their clothing, language, and customs all contain a strong ethnic cultural atmosphere. The "Eight Tones Sitting Singing", which enjoys the reputation of "living fossil of sound" and "heavenly sound", is a folk rap art passed down from generation to generation by the Buyi ethnic group. It has a history of more than a thousand years and has been rated as a "national intangible cultural heritage".
