Guangzhou Transportation


Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, is an international metropolis, international commercial center, international comprehensive transportation hub, national comprehensive gateway city in China.

By Air

Founded in the 1930s, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is one of the three major international aviation hub airports in Chinese Mainland. Its passenger throughput ranks second in China and 19th in the world. It is one of the national hub airports with the largest scale, the most advanced functions and the highest degree of modernization in China. It has become the first gateway hub facing Southeast Asia and Oceania in China.

The Guangzhou Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone has been officially approved by the State Council and is the largest airport comprehensive bonded zone in China in terms of area.

Guangzhou became the main port of the Maritime Silk Road in the 1930s and the largest port in China during the Tang and Song dynasties. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Guangzhou became the only major port for foreign trade in China, the most important port in the history of China's Maritime Silk Road, and the only major port in the world's maritime transportation history that lasted for more than 2000 years. It can be called the "eternal birthplace of the Eastern Maritime Silk Road". 

Guangzhou is one of the 14 coastal port cities opened in 1984. Guangzhou Port is the third largest port in China and the fifth largest port in the world in terms of cargo throughput. It is the main material distribution center and the largest international trade hub in the the Pearl River Delta and South China. It has trade relations with more than 500 ports in more than 170 countries and regions in the world. Huangpu New Port and Xinsha Port are located in the east of Guangzhou and at the estuary of the Pearl River, both of which are the largest container terminals in South China. Lianhuashan Port, Nansha Port, Guangzhou Development Zone Suigang Port, and Zengcheng Xintang Port have opened passenger and cargo ships to and from Hong Kong, while Huadu District has opened cargo ships to and from Hong Kong. Inland rivers can connect various parts of Guangdong Province and Guangxi Province along the East, West, and North River waterways, and are linked to over 100 waterways.

By Train

The Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Railway is a high-speed railway connecting Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in southern China. It is also known as the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Railway and is the southern end of China's "Eight Verticals and Eight Horizontals" high-speed railway network, the Beijing Harbin Beijing Hong Kong Macao Passage. It was first built on December 18, 2005. It starts from Guangzhou South Station in the north and ends at West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong, China in the south. The route runs northwest to southeast, with a total length of 141 kilometers.

The Wuhan Guangzhou High speed Railway, also known as the Wuhan Guangzhou High speed Railway, is a component line of the Beijing Guangzhou High speed Railway. It is the first high-speed railway in China's "Four Vertical and Four Horizontal" high-speed railway passenger dedicated line network to operate at a speed of 350km/h. The Wuhan Guangzhou High speed Railway is located in Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong, with a total length of 1069 kilometers and a total investment of 116.6 billion yuan.

By Bus

Guangzhou buses include city buses (including night lines), Guangzhou BRT, intercity buses, airport special lines, university city special lines (Guangzhou and University City), South China Tower Bus, tourist lines, peak hour special lines, science city special lines, business lines, subway shuttle lines, and other routes; Among them, Huadu District, Panyu District, and Nansha District have their own public transportation systems, while Luogang K01 and K02 are free buses.

Tram

The Guangzhou Haizhu tram is about to open in 2014, and the Zengcheng tram trial section lines 1 and 2 are planned to be put into operation in 2016. The Guangzhou University City tram is planned to be put into operation in 2017. 

Trolleybus

The residents in Guangzhou are often referred to as "trams". It was opened for operation in 1960 and is the only city in Guangdong Province with a tram system. There are a total of 14 routes.

Public bicycles

The Guangzhou public bicycle service was launched on June 22, 2010.

Ferry

Dashatou Pier, Taiping Tongjin, Taikoo Warehouse, Osaka Warehouse Pier, Zhongshan Pier, etc.

Water bus

The first water bus line in Guangzhou began operation in 2007, connecting the four major ports of Fangcun Port, Xidi Port, Tianzi Port, and Zhongshan Port.
