Lugu Lake is located in Yunnan and Sichuan border, altitude of about 2685 meters, beautiful scenery, simple folk style, “Pearl of the Plateau”.
Yunnan side of the lake inhabited by the Mosuo people practicing “men do not marry women do not marry” marriage system, so Lugu Lake is also known as the “Oriental Daughter Country”.
Lugu Lake is surrounded by green mountains, with curvy and graceful shores, and a total of 17 sandy beaches and 14 bays along the lake. There are 5 islands, 3 peninsulas and 1 seawall island scattered in the lake.
Among them, Heiwa Wo Island, Rimubi Island and Rig Island are the three attractions in the lake with ornamental and sightseeing value, known as “Lugu three islands”.
Mosuo Ethnic Villages
There are many villages along the lake, among which the more prosperous ones that can provide food and accommodation are Daluoshui Village and Lige Village.
Daluoshui Village is located on the southwest bank of Lugu Lake and is an early developed village by the lake. The shuttle bus to and from Lijiang stops here. Lige Island and Lige Village are located on the northwest coast of the lake and have been popular tourist destinations in recent years.
There are Nisai Village, Xiaoluoshui Village, and Dazui Village on the Hubei coast, which are more peaceful due to fewer tourists. Further east, you will enter the territory of Sichuan Province, and the grassy sea and the former residence of the queen on the southeast bank of the lake are also worth visiting.
Best time to visit
Every year from June to August, the water poplar flowers in the lake bloom in full bloom. The flowers are as pure and white as ice and snow, dotted with stars and swaying with the wind. The scenery is very charming, like a fairyland on earth.
