Ten-mile Gallery, also known as " Ten-mile Natural Art Gallery", is a valley which is located ins Suoxiyu Nature Reserve ann connected with Tianzi Mountain to the northwest. With a total length of 5.8 km, it is the essence of Suoxiyu Natural Reserve. Boasting dense woods, fragrant flowers and grotesque rocks, this valley looks like a natural art gallery. Over 200 rocks vividly mimic different profiles of human and animals standing in arrays on both sides of the walking path extending deep into the valley. Also, many natural pictures were formed on the precipices and like paintings hanging on the cliffs.
What to see in the Ten-mile Gallery?
Ten-mile Natural Gallery has picturesque scenery, beautiful flowers and a hundred birds contend in singing. The sceneries in this scenic area have strange shapes. The quartz sandstone peaks hidden in the clouds changes a lot which look like people, God, immortal, forest, birds or beasts. As early as the Ming dynasty, someone had written beautiful lines "people swimming in the gorge like drawing the picture" . Longevity-man Welcoming Guests
When sightseeing at the Ten-mile Gallery, the first attraction is "The Longevity-mam Welcoming Guests". About 30 meters into the Ten-mile Gallery, there is a stone peak standing on the right-side mountainous ridge which is face to face like an old man. With distinct facial features, short hair, long eyebrows, deep eyes, and a smiling face, he raise up his left hand as if greeting tourists from afar. The longevity man combines not only form but also spirit to make it a wonder.
Rotating Attic
It is a towering stone peak with a hollow "window" at its top. From a distance, the entire stone peak looks like a multi-level pagoda. While from a close distance, it looks like a rotating attic. The winding path leads directly to the roof of the building. The rocks on the lower floor of the building form a circular corridor, and people stand in the stone corridor, nestling in beautiful mountains. On one side of the stone tower, there is a stone room attached, which is spacious and can accommodate hundreds of people. It complements the attic with one master and one servant, creating a delightful contrast.
Herb Collecting Old Man
In the middle of the peaks across the stream, there is a high of about 80 meters stone peak. No matter who watched it will say it like an old man collecting herb. This old man is thin; his head is twined silk handkerchiefs and his shoulder carries a basket of herbs, looking like Li Shih-Chen (famous medical scientist in Ming Dynasty) or Sun Simiao (famous medical scientist in Tang Dynasty). This attraction is the landmark sights in Ten-mile Natural Gallery, and also is one of the ten superb view of the city Zhangjiajie.
Xiangwang Read Book
Let's go ahead after get sight of the Herb Collecting Old Man. There is a stone peak which is divided into two peaks in the gorge. The left stone peak is large and the right is small, specially looking like a reader who is reading a book with keen pleasure. Local people thought it is the incarnation of the Emperor Xiang, also called Xiangwang (向王）in Chinese, hence, this attraction got its name.
Three-Sisters Peak
Standing in the Monkey Garden. you can easily find there are three peaks standing side by side on your right ahread. These peaks are called the "Three Sisters". You see, the left is the eldest sister who has great hair carrying a child ready to return to her family. The middle is the younger sister who takes her baby in her arms to look forward to the safe return of her husband. The right peak humps just like a pregnant woman, this is the little sister who is just married.
Monkey Garden
In the End Station of the Ten-mile Gallery, it is the Monkey Garden where you can see many monkeys. There are jagged rocks of grotesque shapes, green and luxuriant forest, and small groups of hundreds of monkeys gathering here, so called "Monkey Garden".
In the end of Ten-mile Gallery, the right front mountain is called "Wolong Ridge" which is the link of the essence tour connecting Tianzishan and Ten-mile Natural Gallery. It is abou 3 hours hiking from this site to Tianzi Mountain.
