Beijing Transportation


Beijing has developed transportation, and various modes of transportation serve domestic and foreign tourists. The main modes of transportation to Beijing include airplanes, trains, and long-distance buses.


By Air

There are two large airports in Beijing, namely Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport.

Beijing Capital International Airport is one of the largest airports in the world and the main operating center of Air China. It is located in Shunyi District (administratively under Chaoyang District) of Beijing, 20 kilometers away from the center of Beijing. The passenger throughput reached 81.929 million in 2012, second only to the United States' Hazfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and ranking second globally. The Capital Airport and Beijing section are connected by the Beijing Capital Airport Expressway, the Capital Airport Second Expressway, and the Beijing Metro Capital Airport Line.

Beijing Daxing International Airport is located at the junction of Daxing District in Beijing and Guangyang District in Langfang City, Hebei Province. It was officially opened to traffic on September 25, 2019.


By Train

Beijing is one of the centers of China's railway network. The main domestic routes include the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Harbin Railway, Beijing-Baotou Railway, Beijing-Yuan Railway, Beijing-Tong Railway, Beijing- Chengde Railway, Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou High Speed Railway, Beijing-Harbin High Speed Railway, Beijing -Tianjin Intercity Railway, etc. The international railway transportation includes Beijing-Manzhouli-Russia, Beijing-Erenhot-Ulaanbaatar, Beijing-Pyongyang, Beijing-Hanoi.

Beijing plans a total of 8 national railway passenger transport hubs, of which 7 have already been put into use. They are listed as below:

Beijing Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station, Beijing Sub Center Railway Station, Beijing East Railway Station, Fengtai Railway Station, Chaoyang Railway Station, Qinghe Railway Station, Daxing Railway Station.


By Long-Distance Bus

There are multiple long-distance bus stations in Beijing: Bawangfen Long distance Bus Station, Liuliqiao Long distance Bus Station, Sihui Long distance Bus Station, etc. 

Generally speaking, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Henan, Liaoning, and other places have direct long-distance buses to Beijing, mostly high-end luxury buses, which are safe and comfortable. Each bus station, specific departure direction, and ticket purchasing information can be queried through the Beijing Provincial Passenger Transport Information Network.


City Transport

In Beijing, there are well-developed transportation systems such as subways, buses, and taxis, which can be said to be accessible in all directions.

Bus: The road mileage is 22289 kilometers, and there are 1217 public electric vehicle operation lines in Beijing. There are 23079 operating vehicles which has a total passenger volume for a year over 2.3 billion.


Taxi: Starting from June 10, 2013, the Beijing taxi price standard was adjusted, with a new taxi price of 13 yuan per kilometer or less, and a basic unit price of 2.3 yuan per kilometer. The fuel surcharge is 1 yuan per shipment. Low speed driving and waiting fees will be charged at an additional 2 kilometers per 5 minutes during peak hours in the morning and evening (excluding empty driving fees), and 1 kilometer per hour during other periods (excluding empty driving fees). The service fee for booking a car is 6 yuan per appointment for more than 4 hours in advance, and 5 yuan per appointment for less than 4 hours. If the one-way passenger travel exceeds 15 kilometers, an empty ride fee will be charged, and the basic unit price will be subject to a 50% additional fee.


Beijing Metro : The Beijing subway was first built on July 1, 1965, and the first subway line was completed and opened to traffic on October 1, 1969, making Beijing the first city in China to have a subway.
