Enshi Tusi City


Enshi Tusi City, about 2km away from the urban area of Enshi, is a landmark project of Tujia  culture in the region, and also a large-scale and typical style antique building group of Tujia stilted buildings in China. Enshi Tusi City Scenic Spot includes many attractions, which reflects the historical origin of Tujia people, and shows the ancient folk customs of Tujia people.

Tusi City Gate Tower, also known as Observation Building, is a commemorative building that displays the prestige and merits of the Tusi. Its appearance is solemn and gorgeous, and its architectural style embodies Tujia people's humanistic thought and intelligence.

Wind & Rain Bridge, is a replica of an ancient bridge. With two bridge pavilions towering above the bridge corridor,as well as with eaves and raised corners, the bridge corridor is specially equipped with railings and long sitting boards on both sides for commercial travelers carrying their shoulders to rest and cool off, and to provide shade and shelter from rain. Therefore, it is called the Wind and Rain Bridge.

Lingjun Temple: Ling Jun is the ancestor of Tujia people. The Lingjun Temple is located on the mountain opposite the cruise ship pier in the scenic area. It sits west facing east. On the stone walls along the mountain next to the temple, there are huge long scroll murals painted. The mural records the heroic deeds of Lin Jun throughout his life.

Nine Entrance Hall, aslo known as Jiujin Hall 九进堂, like the Forbidden City in Beijing, is the palace where  Tusi Kings lived. As the core part of the Tusi city, the Jiujin Hall is composed of 333 columns, 333 stone column foundations, 330 doors, thousands of carved wooden windows, thousands of purlins, and tens of thousands of rafters. It is currently a rare wooden structure with pure mortise and tenon joints in China. Looking up, you can see pavilions and corners everywhere which make it look magnificent and truly a Tusi imperial city.

Diaojiao Building, a Tujia people folk house in the scenic spot, is also worth visiting. The Diaojiao Building is mostly built near mountains and rivers, and fruit trees and bamboo forests are planted in front of and behind the house.

In the scenic area, tourists can also climb the Tusi city wall built by taking advantage of the mountain, look at the beacon tower, and express their nostalgia for the past.
