Enshi Prefecture is located in the western border of Hubei Province and the hinterland of Wuling. It has been known as the "throat of Sichuan and Sichuan, and the barrier of Jingchu" since ancient times. It is the "bridgehead" connecting the Chengdu Chongqing economic circle in the Wuhan metropolitan area and an important ecological barrier and resource treasure trove in Hubei Province. It has the regional advantage of connecting the east and west, and the south and north. A regional transportation hub city with a three-dimensional transportation network of "public, railway, and air" has been established within the state. The national and provincial trunk road network of "two verticals, two horizontals, and five lines" and the urban transportation network of "six verticals, five horizontals, and four rings" have been formed.
By the end of 2023, the total length of highways in the state will reach 31465 kilometers, including 625 kilometers of expressways. The navigable mileage of inland waterways is 589.97 kilometers, including 186.41 kilometers of graded waterways. The railway has a total length of 341 kilometers and is equipped with railway passenger service stations such as Badong Station, Enshi Station, Jianshi Station, and Lichuan Station. Enshi Airport has 14595 takeoffs and landings throughout the year.
