Enshi Prefecture belongs to the subtropical monsoon mountainous humid climate, with distinct four seasons, warm winters and cool summers, rainy and hot seasons, and heavy fog and humidity. Due to the complex terrain and significant altitude differences, the redistribution of climate elements such as light, heat, and water has resulted in significant vertical regional differences in the climate of the entire state, forming a diverse and multi-level three-dimensional climate with regional characteristics. The climate resources within the state have the following five types of characteristics: warm and humid flat valley climate in winter, warm and humid low mountain climate, mild and humid mid mountain climate, warm and humid high mountain climate, and high-altitude ridge climate with high altitude and humidity.
The average annual temperature within the territory is 16.2 ℃, and the variation of monthly average temperature throughout the year is basically consistent. The lowest temperature is in January, and then it increases month by month, reaching the highest in July, gradually decreasing in August, and then gradually decreasing. The average annual sunshine hours in the whole state are 1232.2, and the frost free period within the territory is between 200-300 days, with most areas having more than 230 days.
The average annual precipitation in the state is 1600 millimeters, with more rainfall in spring and summer than in autumn and winter. Spring and autumn are often cloudy and rainy, with higher intensity in summer and lower rainfall in winter. The overall distribution of precipitation in the whole state is more in the south and less in the north, with more high mountains than low mountains, the least in the Yangtze River valley, and the most in the southern He Peak.
