Lucun Village

Lucun Village, also known as Zhishan Village, is located in Hongcun Town, Yi County, 2 kilometers northwest of Hongcun. It is a typical Huizhou architectural style village and it is famous for the woodcarving buildings complex.

The Yangzhan River runs through Lu Village from west to east, while the Luci River runs through Lu Village from north to south. Two clear streams converge at the Yecun River. Following the path into the village, visitors can see some art school students coming here to sketch under the Huizhou style buildings with white walls and black tiles.

Lucun Village is home to the Lu family, and there is a group of woodcarving buildings built by the famous Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) wealthy businessman Lu Bangxie (nicknamed "Lu Million") for his six wives. These wooden buildings are incredibly exquisite, and it took them 20 years to complete.

The Zhicheng Hall in the woodcarving building complex has three rooms: the entrance hall, the main hall, and the back hall. That is where Lu million's first wife, second wife, and his parents live together. The sculpture of the main hall building is very beautiful, with eight doors and windows on each side. The upper half of the doors and windows are engraved with fine patterns, while the lower half is engraved with auspicious patterns and historical legends. The various characters are carved with a strong sense of three dimensionality. Unfortunately, many of the carved figures had their heads cut off during the Cultural Revolution.

Entering the private school built by Lu Wanyi for 24 children from the side door of Zhicheng Hall, the wooden carvings here were sealed with yellow mud during the Cultural Revolution, so all the character carvings we see now still have heads. Continuing through the kitchen with many stoves, you arrived at the Siji Hall where the fifth aunt lived. You can see that the carvings on the winter melon beam and the official bed on the right side of the living room are both very beautiful.

Then, passing through the high walls and deep alleys, you arrived at the Sicheng Hall where Lu million's third and fourth wives lived. You can see a clear spring called Longquan under the small piston on the ground; There are also stone pillars carved into bamboo bundles and wooden barrels for heating. These are all very interesting objects. Among the woodcarving buildings, there is also a glass hall where Lu million's sixth wife lives. The glass is imported from Germany, with a thickness of only 2 millimeters and exquisite craftsmanship.

The commercialization level of Lu Village is not as good as that of Hong Village, and accommodation and meals are also convenient. In the village, there are farmhouse restaurants and hotels run by local people, and vendors sell snacks such as Red-Stewed Duck legs at their doorsteps. There are not many tourists here, and it is a relatively quiet village.
