Tunxi Old Street


Tunxi Old Street is located in the center of Tunxi District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. With a total length of 1272 meters, 853 meters for the essence part, and 5-8 meters wide, Tunxi Old Street includes 1 straight street, 3 horizontal streets, and 18 small alleys.

Tunxi Old Street is composed of over 300 Huizhou style buildings built in different eras, distributed in a fish skeleton shape, narrow in the west and wider in the east. Due to its location at the confluence of the Hengjiang, Suishui, and Xin'an Rivers, Tunxi Old Street is also known as the flowing "Qingming Riverside Map".

Tunxi Old Street is the most well preserved ancient street market in China with the most architectural styles of the Southern Song and Ming Qing dynasties, and it is also a "national key cultural relic protection unit" in China. In 2009, Tunxi Old Street, along with Beijing Guozijian Street and Suzhou Pingjiang Road, was elected as a "Famous Historical and Cultural Street in China".

Now, Tunxi Old Street has become a famous snack street and business street in Huangshan City. The street is paved with bluestone slabs. Huizhou style buildings stand on both sides of the street.  Located in a house facing the street, each shop sales mostly Huizhou specialties.

The road that branches out from both sides of the main street also belongs to the Tunxi Old Street neighborhood. If you don't like shopping, you can take a fork in the road and head south to reach the banks of the Xin'an River, where you can enjoy the river view. By the way, you can also walk to Deyang Tower and watch Huangmei Opera while drinking tea.
