Dianchi Lake, also known as Kunming Lake, is the sixth largest freshwater lake in China. You can stroll around the lake, take a boat trip, and feed the birds in winter; you can also climb up to the Dragon Gate overlooking the Dianchi Lake, which is refreshing and relaxing.
Dianchi Lake is located at the foot of Xishan Mountain, about 5 kilometers away from the city, with the northern end adjacent to Daguan Park, and Yunnan Nationalities Village across the water from Xishan Park.
To visit Dianchi Lake, you can walk along the scenic road on the east bank of Dianchi Lake, which is very beautifully repaired, and people often come here to feed the red-billed gulls in winter time. At the north end of the Dianchi Lake, in the Daguan Park, take a boat tour of the Dianchi Lake scenery. There are hand-boats, motorized boats and speedboats to choose from.
The best time to enjoy the winter scenery on the lake is from November to January of the following year. Every winter, thousands of red billed gulls come to Dianchi Lake to spend the winter, and the flying gulls on the lake surface become a major landscape of Dianchi Lake in winter.
