Kunming Weather


Kunming, known as the "Spring City", belongs to the subtropical plateau mountain monsoon climate with low latitudes in the north. The climate here is mild, with no scorching heat in summer and no severe cold in winter. The sunshine here is long and the frost period is short.

The annual average temperature in Kunming is around 15 ℃, with an average of about 2200 hours of sunshine per year, a frost free period of over 240 days, and an average annual precipitation of about 1000 millimeters. The average monthly temperature during the hottest period is around 19 ℃, and the average monthly temperature during the coldest period is around 8 ℃; The highest extreme temperature in the past year was 31.2 ℃, and the lowest was -7.8 ℃.

The annual precipitation in Kunming is divided into two seasons in terms of time distribution: dry and wet. The rainy season is from May to October, with precipitation accounting for about 85% of the annual total. The dry season from November to April of the following year only accounts for about 15% of the annual precipitation.


Best Time to Visit

Tourists visiting Kunming are suitable for all seasons. But the best travel time is from March to October. Because this is the season when Yunnan's ethnic minorities have the most festivals and flowers are in full bloom, Kunming's scenery is the most beautiful at this time.
