How to get to Kunming? Kunming is one of the most important transportation hubs in western China, with multiple ways to reach it, such as by plane, train, bus, or self driving, making it very convenient.

By Air

Kunming Changshui International Airport is located 25km northeast of the city center. Metro line 6 will get you to the City East Bus Station and buses will get you from there to anywhere in the city. If you take a taxi, make sure they use the meter, as you will pay a lot more otherwise.

By Train

There are three railway stations in Kunming, such as Kunming Station, Kunming South Station, and Kunming North Station

Kunming Railway Station: located in Guandu District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China, with a total of 9 platforms and 14 lines, it is a first-class station. There are railway lines such as Shanghai Kunming Railway, Chengdu Kunming Railway, and Nanjing Kunming Railway passing through.

Kunming South Railway Station: Kunming South Station is an important transportation hub for the middle road network of Yunnan Province's "Five Networks" construction, with a total of 16 stations and 30 lines.

Kunming North Railway Station: Originally classified as a second-class station, it was downgraded from a second-class station to a fourth class station in 2007 and is under the jurisdiction of Kunming Railway Bureau. The Kunhe Railway, Kunshi Railway, and Kunxiao Railway lines pass through.

By Long-distance Bus

There are five main passenger stations in Kunming city, namely East, South, West, North, and Northwest, with different bus services to and from the province.

Kunming Eastern Bus Station: it is located between the Hongqiao Interchange and Liangmian Temple Interchange on the East Third Ring Road in Panlong District. The business direction includes various regions under the jurisdiction of Wenshan Prefecture, Gejiu City, Kaiyuan City, Mengzi County, Mile County, Luxi County, Hekou County, Pingbian County, Jinping County, Luliang County, Shizong County, Luoping County under the jurisdiction of Qujing City, Shilin County, Yiliang County under the jurisdiction of Kunming City, and some inter provincial shuttle buses.

Kunming Western Bus Station: it is located on the northeast side of the intersection of Chunyu Road and Yining Road in Majie Town, Xishan District. The business direction includes various areas under the jurisdiction of Dali Prefecture, Baoshan City, Dehong Prefecture, Lincang City, Nujiang Prefecture, Diqing Prefecture, Gucheng District under Lijiang City, Yulong County, Yongsheng County, Ninglang County, Jingdong County (belonging to Pu'er City), and Shangyun Town (belonging to Lancang County of Pu'er City).

Kunming Southern Bus Station: it is located on the east side of Xinkunluo Road in Yiliu Township, Guandu District. The business direction includes various areas under the jurisdiction of Pu'er City (except Jingdong County and Shangyun Town), Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yuxi City (except Yimen County), Jianshui County, Shiping County, Yuanyang County, Luchun County, Honghe County, Jinning County (belonging to Kunming City), and some international shuttle buses under the jurisdiction of Honghe Prefecture.

Kunming Northern Bus Station:  it is located in Yangchang, Longtou Street, Panlong District. Its business direction includes various areas under the jurisdiction of Qujing City (excluding Luliang County, Shizong County, and Luoping County), various areas under the jurisdiction of Zhaotong City, Xundian County, Songming County, Luquan County, Dongchuan District, and some inter provincial buses under the jurisdiction of Kunming City.

Kunming Northwest Bus Station:  it is located in the southwest of Phuket Village, Wuhua District, about 600 meters away from Kunsha Road (next to Phuket Road Bus Repair Shop). The business direction includes various regions under the jurisdiction of Chuxiong Prefecture, Yimen County (belonging to Yuxi City), Anning City, Fumin County, Luquan County, Huaping County (belonging to Lijiang City), and Panzhihua City (belonging to Sichuan Province) under the jurisdiction of Kunming City


City Traffic

Kunming Bus.gifBus :  All buses in Kunming are unmanned, with passengers boarding at the front door and alighting at the back door. The unified ticket price in the city is 1 yuan, and the air-conditioned car is 2 yuan.

The bus stop time in Kunming is very short, so it is best for tourists to stand closer to the door after getting on the bus to avoid delaying getting off.  Recommended A1 Bus Tourist Line: The fare is 2 yuan and it runs through all the famous attractions in Kunming.

Taxi  :  The starting price for a taxi in Kunming during the day is 8 yuan (within 3 kilometers), plus a 2.5 yuan fuel surcharge. The starting price from 22:00 to 7:00 is 9.6 yuan (within 3 kilometers), and after 3 kilometers it is 1.8 yuan/kilometer. If the toll for taking a taxi to Shilin, New Airport and other places is to be borne by the passenger themselves.
