Jiuxiang Scenic Area is located in Jiuxiang Yi and Hui Autonomous Township, Yiliang County. The scenic area has dense forests and abundant flora and fauna resources, including magnificent mountains, rivers, canyons, and magnificent underground caves. It is a typical karst landscape. The main attractions include: Yincui Gorge, Jinghun Gorge, Lion Hall, Male and Female Waterfalls, Shentian, etc.
To enter the scenic area, the first step is to take the sightseeing elevator with a drop of 53 meters down to the Yincui Gorge at the bottom of the valley, and then take a boat ride through the gorge. The stalactites on both sides are diverse and dazzling, leaving one dazzled. Crossing the canyon leads to an underground cave. The Lion Hall is an elliptical underground hall with a sloping dome, named after the stalactites piled up at the south entrance of the cave, resembling a lion. The Lion Hall is tall and spacious, with a total area of over 15000 square meters. The cave roof is a huge rock without any support, which can be called a miracle. The scene in the movie "Myth" where Jackie Chan and Kim Hee sun fly around in the tomb was filmed here. In the middle of the hall is a huge exhibition hall, showcasing some rare stones and ethnic handicrafts. Just take a look.
Passing through the Lion Hall is the Goddess Palace. The stalactites densely packed inside the cave are of various shapes and sizes, appearing ethereal and hazy against the backdrop of colorful lights. Passing through the Diehong Bridge on the dark river, entering the Wolong Cave. There are two giant waterfalls flowing down from the mountain wall in the cave, reaching a height of 30 meters. From a distance, it looks like a "human" character, known as the "male and female double waterfall", which is one of the iconic landscapes of Jiuxiang Scenic Area. The splashing waterfall makes the mountain road below slippery and difficult to navigate, so safety should be taken into consideration.
On the side of the mountain road, layers of stalactites converge into terraced fields, shining brilliantly under the light. This is the legendary "Kandian". There is a giant cone-shaped stalactite between Kanda, which is said to be a granary and looks quite similar.
Continue on, passing through the forest lined village (where young men and women perform folk dances) and the bat cave that is no longer inhabited by bats. Follow the winding mountain road to reach the cableway station, and take the cableway for 10 minutes to return to the entrance of the scenic area.
Jiuxiang Scenic Area and Stone Forest are also the karst three-dimensional landscape, but their beauty lies not in the peak forest, but in the karst caves. The scenic area has over a hundred large and numerous caves, known as the "Cave Museum", and is one of the recommended tourist attractions around Kunming.
