Lhasa Overview


Lhasa, also known as Luoxie and Sunshine City, is a prefecture level city and the capital of the Xizang Autonomous Region. The city has three districts and five counties, covering an area of 296400 square kilometers. By the end of 2022, Lhasa has a registered residence population of 581200.  

Lhasa is located in the southwest of China, the middle of Xizang Plateau, the north of the Himalayas, and the valley plain in the middle reaches of the Lhasa River, a tributary of the the Yarlung Zangbo River. It is the political, economic, cultural, scientific and educational center of Xizang, and also the holy land of Tibetan Buddhism. The geographical coordinates of Lhasa are 91 ° 06 'east longitude and 29 ° 36' north latitude. The Lhasa River flows through here and into the the Yarlung Zangbo River in the southern suburbs. Lhasa is 3650 meters above sea level, with sunny weather throughout the year. With over 3000 hours of sunshine throughout the year, it is known as the "Sunshine City". Lhasa is rich in various resources and has obvious resource advantages compared to other cities in the country and autonomous regions.
