Wuhan University was formerly known as the Self-Strengthening School founded by Zhang Zhidong, the Governor of Hubei and Guangdong at the end of the Qing Dynasty. As a “masterpiece and model of Chinese university campus architecture”, Wuhan University, in addition to cherry blossoms, more worth seeing is the old buildings. Song Qing Gymnasium, the old library, the old Faculty of Arts, the old Law School, the Students' Club, and the old dormitory (also known as the old Lodge), which is known as the “Cherry Blossom Castle” of the students.
