Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge

Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, the first bridge built over the Yangtze River, is a landmark of Wuhan. The bridge spans between Snake Hill in Wuchang and Turtle Hill in Hanyang and was completed in 1957. There are national style bridgeheads built at both ends of the bridge. The bridge was built with the help of the Soviet government, and the whole bridge is full of thick Russian style.

The bridge is divided into two levels, the upper level is a highway with sidewalks on both sides; the lower level is a railroad. Under the south and north bridgeheads of the bridge are the Wuchang River Beach and the Hanyang River Beach respectively. Near the Wuchang River Beach are attractions such as the Yellow Crane Tower (which is about half an hour's walk from the bridgehead) and the Xinhai Revolutionary Museum; near the Hanyang River Beach are attractions such as the Turtle Hill Park and the Qingchuan Pavilion.

The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is walkable up to the bridge and across the river. You can walk up to the bridge deck and cross the river via the approach bridges near the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuchang and near the south gate of Turtle Hill Park in Hanyang, the whole journey taking about 50 minutes; or you can take the elevator (elevator charges apply) to reach the bridge deck under the bridge's two south and north headstocks, and then walk across the river, the whole journey taking about 30 minutes.
