Diqing Climate & Weather


Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture belongs to the temperate and cold temperate monsoon climate (the valley area belongs to the northern subtropical monsoon climate), with obvious characteristics of low latitude plateau monsoon climate and distinct dry and wet seasons. The annual average temperature is 6.3~11.8 ℃, the hottest month average temperature is 13.6~18.8 ℃, the coldest month average temperature is -2.3~4.2 ℃, the extreme minimum temperature is -27.4 ℃, the annual sunshine hours are 1824.9~2150.2 hours, the precipitation is 651.1~971.5 millimeters, and the frost free period is 127~201 days. The rainy season (May to October) accounts for about 85% of the annual precipitation, with precipitation mainly concentrated in July to August; The precipitation during the dry season (November to April of the following year) accounts for only about 15% of the total annual precipitation, with sufficient sunshine, high evaporation, low air humidity, large diurnal temperature range, and severe radiation cooling. The relative altitude difference in Diqing is 5254 meters, and the temperature decreases by 0.37-0.75 ℃ with every 100 meters increase in altitude. The vertical variation is obvious, and the terrain structure is complex, with the south being lower and the north higher. The southern part has relatively abundant precipitation and a humid climate, while the northern part is relatively dry, forming a special climate of "one mountain with four seasons and ten miles of different days".
