Qiandongnan Overview


Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, an autonomous prefecture under the jurisdiction of Guizhou Province, is located in the southeast of Guizhou Province, adjacent to Hunan to the east and Guangxi to the south, with a total area of 30282 square kilometers. As of February 2024, the state has jurisdiction over 15 counties and 1 county-level city. As of the end of 2023, the permanent population of Qiandongnan Prefecture was 3.7573 million.

Qiandongnan Prefecture is located in the transition zone between the the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Hunan Guangxi Hilly Basin. The terrain is high in the west, south and north and low in the east, covering the landforms of middle and low mountains, low mountains, hills and basins. The altitude is more than 500~1000 meters, belonging to the subtropical humid monsoon climate. There are 983 rivers within the territory, with Qingshui River, Qiyang River, and Duliu River as the main branches, distributed in a tree like pattern. In April 1956, the State Council established the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture; On July 23 of the same year, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture was officially established; In 1961, the establishment of 16 counties was gradually restored; In January 1984, Kaili City was officially established. Qiandongnan Prefecture has new energy materials, Baijiu, light textile and other characteristic industries.
