Songhua River

The section of the Songhua River that flows through the urban area of Harbin has long become an important landscape of the city. Every winter, the frozen river surface becomes a popular tourist destination where people can experience activities such as riding carriages and playing in snow circles. In summer, the Songhua River is also a great place for people to cool off and take a walk.

The Songhua River is a major tributary of Heilongjiang and a major artery in Northeast China, with two main tributaries. One is the Second Songhua River originating from Tianchi in Baitou Mountain, and the other is the Nen River originating from Xiaoxing'an Ridge. The two tributaries converge in Fuyu County to form the Songhua River, which then turns northeast and flows into the Heilongjiang River in Tongjiang County.

In winter, the frozen and solid ice layer of the Songhua River is about half a meter thick. People and carriages can walk on the ice, and when there is snow, they can step on the soft and fluffy surface. The river in Harbin is over 100 meters wide, and near the Monument to the Heroes of Flood Control, there are various recreational activities such as skiing circles, ice rinks, ice hockey, snow tank driving, and ice cycling. Both adults and children can experience them.                                                             Travel  Tips
