Baoguo Temple, located not far from the gate of Mount Emei, was first built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It is a temple that provides access to the gate and is also the starting point for most tourists to visit the scenic area of Mount Emei. The plaque of "Baoguo Temple" on the mountain gate of the temple was created by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, and it is also the center of Buddhist activities in the mountains.

Baoguo Temple was originally named Huizongtang and was renamed during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The main hall includes Maitreya Hall, Daxiong Hall, Seven Buddha Hall, and Samantabhadra Hall, which are built along the mountain and are taller than each other. Nowadays, this is the location of the Emeishan Buddhist Association, where many large-scale Buddhist ceremonies are held.

Entering the mountain gate, the first hall is the Maitreya Hall, where a statue of Maitreya is enshrined. The second hall is the the Shakya ManiHall, where Sakyamuni's golden body and colorful lotus sitting statue are enshrined.

Climbing up the stone steps again leads to the Seven Buddha Hall, where seven Buddhas are enshrined. His Royal Highness the Seven Buddhas stands a fourteen story purple copper Huayan Pagoda, which was cast during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The pagoda body is cast with 4700 small Buddhas and the full text of the Huayan Sutra.

The last hall is the Hall of Samantabhadra, which enshrines the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Because Mount Emei is the dojo of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, he was offered in the rear hall.
