He Long Park is located on the east side of Shijiayan Tourist Route in Tianzi Mountain. He Long, one of the ten Marshals of the People's Republic of China, was born in 1896 in Hongjiguan Township of Zhangjiajie City's Sangzhi County. In 1928, he led 3000 people to up-rising in Sangzhi County, and he founded a group of Chinese Red Army in the 1930s.
This park was set up by local government in 1996 so as to commemorate the 100th anniversary of He Long's birth. With a bronze statue of Marshal He Long standing inside, the park covers an area of approximately 3 hectares. The park's name was inscribed by the former general secretaries Hu Yaobang and Jiang Zemin successively.
The bronze statue of He Long is lifelike which looks like the towering peak of Tianzi Mountain on a stone platform. He held a pipe in his hand, and a war horse snuggled tightly to his right. This bronze statue symbolizes Marshal He Long's glorious military career and the eternal preservation of the natural wonders of Zhangjiajie. The inscription 'He Long' was engraved by the famous Chinese calligrapher Mr. Qin Xisheng on an inclined rock slab, which is resembling an open hardcover book.
In the park, there is also planted with reeds which were sent by the people of Honghu City of Hubei Province. In the 1930s, He Long led the Red Army in the Honghu area to carry out armed struggle with the enemy and created the Honghu Revolutionary base area.
This park has been designated as a national defense education base where showcase some weapons including fighter jets manufactured by the former Soviet Union and T-34 tanks that President Stalin commanded battles in World War II.
Around the park, visitors can walk freely to get sight of the beautiful scenery of Tianzi Mountain.
