Located in the northwest of Hunan Province, Wulingyuan Scenic Area and its breath-taking landscapes were found in 1980s. Covering a total area of approximately 369 square km. Wulingyuan Scenic Area was added to the World Natural Heritage list in December of 1992 and became a member of the first World Geoparks promulgated by the UNESCO in 2004.
